ASR Dickson visits the Scots Guards

Army Scripture Reader (and former Scots Guardsman) Gavin Dickson visited his old battalion at Catterick Garrison this week. Having reconnected with a former colleague – who is now the Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Scots Guards – Gavin was invited down to visit Catterick “to spread the good news”.

Gavin was able to spend time with soldiers who knew him from his time in service, and to share his story of the life-changing experience of knowing Jesus Christ.

During a conversation about memories of Iraq and Afghanistan, one of the soldiers said, “Padre, we need more of this”, because people don’t open up enough about the things that have affected them.

It is often in the spontaneous unplanned moments like these that Scripture Readers do their most important work – caring for the spiritual welfare of our Armed Forces and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
