New Scripture Reader

Following our Selection and Recruitment event in July, we are pleased to announce that Steven Dougherty has been accepted as a Scripture Reader. Steven has started his Phase 1 training, which includes a one-year theological course at Cornhill London and spending time with other ASRs. He is currently shadowing ASRs Jim Henderson and Mike Blackstock at Aldershot Garrison.

I had been asking the Lord to stir my heart for mission again, and I was seeking God to know where He might call me. I had been looking periodically at some Christian vocation websites to see what opportunities there were. During my lunch break, I discovered SASRA. I hadn’t come across their mission before and was so excited to read that they were looking for Scripture Readers. I sent my wife a link to the job advert, and she replied saying, ‘This is what you have been looking for, to minister to military personnel.’ I feel so blessed to have the privilege of being a Scripture Reader.

If you have a gift or calling to personal ministry, experience of military service, and a heart for the young people of the British Armed Forces, please consider talking to us about becoming a Scripture Reader.

How Will You Remember Them?

Each November, the national attention turns to our Armed Forces as we remember those who have served and honour those who have given their lives.

The Cut-Off

Long-standing SASRA supporter Barbara was inspired to have a sponsored hair cut-off. Her church is close to Colchester Garrison and they pray regularly for ASR Gavin Dickson, the local Scripture Reader.

‘Standby, GO!’

It had been a while since I heard those words shouted out on a cold Catterick morning (over nineteen years to be precise), and I inwardly shuddered as a large crowd of people started jostling over the start line of the 2024 PARAS’10 event.
