After five years of service, Major General Rob Thomson CBE DSO will be stepping down as the SASRA President on 31 July 2025.
‘It has been a great honour and privilege to serve as the President of SASRA since 1 January 2020 and I am very grateful to everyone in the organisation, whether serving or supporting us, for their commitment to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to the Army and to the Air Force over those five or so years.
I am especially grateful to John Lewis, our long-serving and tireless Chairman, and to the two general secretaries with whom I served: Andrew Hill and Martin Gliniecki. Andrew and Martin have both driven an ambitious programme of growth, placing more Scripture Readers into the front line, so to speak. We find ourselves more financially stable than before and we have strong, collaborative relationships with the Chaplains Departments of the Army and the RAF. Working together with Chaplains on base is crucial to the success of our work. Our preparation of our Scripture Readers has got better and better too. I congratulate everyone who has played a part in all of the above.
All of this means that SASRA is able to tell more people more effectively about our Lord Jesus, to transmit His heavenly call. Being alongside our soldiers and aviators is the first critical step on that pathway; being available the next step and building the right friendships the third. We must all continue to serve humbly and faithfully on the bases we have been assigned to work, ready to respond to the open but also challenging questions of our service people. I am so grateful to all our Scripture Readers who invest enormous amounts of time and effort in building friendships that allow the good news of Christ to be shared. Please know that your work is valued enormously and that you have our full support. Keep going!’
