ASR David Jamieson and Rev Colin Macleod, both veterans, sharing a war story or two.
SASRA has long been supported by faithful people, churches and trusts in Scotland and recently, Regional Manager Andy McMahon, accompanied by ASR David Jamieson and his wife Laiyee, travelled to the Isle of Lewis, to share some of the amazing work and witnessing that David and all our Scripture Readers are doing across our Armed Forces. David, living in Inverness and serving at Fort George and Kinloss barracks, shared his own experiences, challenges and encouragements, of more troops engaging with Christianity.
One of his visits was to Back Free Church where he met up with Rev Colin Macleod, who comes from a long line of ministers from the Isle of Lewis. His late father, Rev Murdo Alex Macleod, faithfully ministered at Stornoway Free Church, while his grandfather, Rev Alexander Macleod, served the congregation from 1947 to 1954. Colin Macleod joined the Army at the age of 17 and served with the Royal Tank Regiment for six years, departing in 1992. In 2005, he returned to military life, this time as an Army chaplain for 12 years. His chaplaincy took him on four tours of Afghanistan, experiences that deeply shaped both his ministry and his outlook on life. During the SASRA visit, Colin spoke warmly of the profound respect he has for SASRA and its ministry to our Armed Forces personnel.
