Five Loaves and Two Fish

Every week the church I attend are gifted a bag of leftover bread from the bakery in town. Recently my wife and I were given five loaves of crusty white bread and told they would just be binned if we didn't take them. We live on base at RAF Benson, so I thought, why don't I try and give them away to people on my road and use it as an opportunity to introduce myself. I knocked on some people's doors, told them where I live, who I was and why I had so much bread. Each person I spoke to took one. One lady asked about a baby group, as she has a newborn, and I was able to let her know that there is one running on Wednesday afternoons at the Station Church.’

Over the last few months I have been so blessed by the fellowship and friendship of Christian soldiers. It lifts the soul when we meet each week for our soldiers' Bible study where we all experience good fellowship and friendship. I can now add another ‘F’ and that is fishing. I was invited by a Christian staff sergeant to go fishing – something I have had no interest in whatsoever, but because he invited me, I decided to give it a go. Apart from getting my line tangled in trees and predominately catching twigs and weeds, I had a lovely day of Christian fellowship by the lake. I did manage to catch two fish! I have decided to learn all there is to know about fishing so that I can take soldiers on a fishing trip, share the gospel with them and teach them how to become fishers of men.

These are just two examples of the creative and compassionate ways Scripture Readers are building relationships, opening conversations and sharing the hope of Jesus with those they meet. Through simple acts of kindness and genuine fellowship, lives are being transformed across the Armed Forces’ community. Your support helps make this ministry possible.
