Cycling 161 miles from Edinburgh to Catterick

ASR Dave Hossack and the team set off from Edinburgh Castle

The riders started the race at Edinburgh Castle.

Scripture Reader Dave Hossack, who is based at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) in Catterick Garrison, joined the ITC Catterick team for their 161-mile cycle ride from Edinburgh to Catterick. The cycle ride was part of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity’s Race the World: Seven Continents Virtual Challenge. British Army soldiers from any rank across the world can take part from whichever continent they are in.

Following the cycle ride, Dave reflects:

Praise God for the cycle event I was involved with and the contacts made. One comment was about my age and ability and the response was, ‘because he's got God with him!’ Pray I would be able to build on this and it would open doors for me and the proclamation of the gospel.

Launched in 2020, Race the World is an annual challenge in which units have raced each other across the seven continents, whether that is cycling, tabbing, rowing, swimming or running.

This year, Race the World is taking place over two identical 3,399km (2,112-mile) legs across a single continent to enable units to compete at times to suit their commitments. Europe’s legs are between 3-9 July and 23-29 October. At the end of the two legs the fastest team (both in time and on individual averages) will receive an award, as will the best fundraising unit. ITC Catterick were the Overall Winners and the 6 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps the Fundraising Winners in 2022.
