On Saturday 14 October, Burnopfield Gospel Fellowship hosted SASRA’s Life “Behind the Wire” event in the Newcastle area.

The event was well attended, with over 30 supporters from both the surrounding area and from further afield. Some supporters had travelled over an hour to attend!

Mr George Dews, one of the church officers and a SASRA Advocate, introduced the event and opened in prayer. ASR Dave Hossack and Regional Manager Andrew McMahon presented on the work of SASRA in the previous year, with Dave Hossack speaking on the challenges and the blessings of his work in the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick. Hymns of worship were sung at the beginning and end, and Mr Eddie Stringer, the church secretary, closed in prayer.

ASR Dave Hossack spoke about the challenges and blessings of his work in the Infantry Training Centre.

An abundance of SASRA literature was made available as was some SASRA merchandise. The church hosted the event with ample car parking, a warm welcome and delicious refreshments. It was the only SASRA event the Regional Manager has encountered where games and amusements were made available afterwards. Children played air hockey on the games tables the Gospel Fellowship had for youth outreach work. Simultaneously, somewhat older members of the congregation played table football!

Conversation over tea, coffee and food enabled SASRA, church and personal fellowship and encouragement.

We were grateful for a well-supported event and an opportunity to share of our work with the young people of the British Armed Forces.
