ASR Gavin Dickson has been awarded the Adjutant General’s Corps Colonel Commandant’s Commendation as part of the King’s Birthday Honours.
Gavin is the Scripture Reader at Colchester Garrison, which includes the Military Corrective Training Centre (MCTC), an establishment that provides corrective training for servicemen and women sentenced to periods of detention.
The Adjutant General’s Corps (AGC) Colonel Commandant’s Commendation is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional professionalism, dedication and service in support of the Corps. It recognises Gavin’s exceptional dedication to the spiritual and practical welfare at MCTC.
This award was given in recognition of my work at the MCTC, where I stepped in to provide sustained spiritual support and pastoral care to both detainees and staff during a period of operational need. It was a privilege to serve the MCTC community in this capacity and to contribute to the overall welfare and resilience of the unit. Although I continue to support MCTC and the Military Provost Staff, it is a joy now to work with Padre Tim Flowers, and I take it as a great privilege to have been able to ‘plug the gap’ between Padres. I am sincerely grateful for the support of the senior Chaplain Gavin Smith and the full Chaplaincy team at 16 Air Assault, all at MCTC, the Chain of Command at MCTC, whose cooperation and commitment made this work both possible and effective.
